    Trend Micro Security Research is seeking an application and protocol researcher to join our industry-leading research team. Trend Micro Security Research supports a global customer base including leading security product vendors, software vendors, and large enterprises with a set of industry-leading technical data feeds, research products, and engineering services.

     

    As an Application and Protocol Researcher, you will be part of a team that studies a broad range of products such as peer-peer clients, instant messaging, media streaming, authentication protocols, and common business and data center protocols, to provide application visibility and control.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Capture and analyze application network traffic and behaviour.
    • Develop deep packet inspection signatures that detect application behaviour using regular-expressions and Snort.
    • Produce documentation describing application behaviour and detection strategies.
    • Communicate research results to customers, team members, and management.

    Required Knowledge:

    • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and other networking protocols. RFC-level understanding of popular protocols like HTTP/FTP/SMTP/CIFS.
    • Extensive knowledge and experience with network security, application security and cryptography.
    • Deep knowledge of modern operating systems including Linux.
    • Familiarity with tools such as Snort, Wireshark, Fiddler and VMware.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, Perl, JavaScript, or Bash.
    • Familiarity with low level programming languages such as C/C++ or assembly language is a plus.

    Required Skills & Abilities:

    • Ability to analyze and describe complex application behaviours.
    • Experience of application and protocol reverse engineering is a big plus.
    • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Great attention to detail and personal QA.
    • Self-directed, self-motivated, self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

    Required Professional Designation/Certification:

    • Bachelor or Master degree in computer science or a related field preferred but not required.

    Experience Required

    • Industry experience performing similar technical role preferred but not required.
